A Disgrace to Doctors

Wow, had slept for 2 hours after I got home from NUH. If my stomach would stop protesting, I guess I cound sleep throughout. Haha

Eighth Day In Ward 43

SN handed me 3 cases and allow me to handle them with her minimal guidance. As I thought I had my mission accomplished smoothly, I found out there is a new stat dose (dose to be given immediately) prescription on the IMR (In-patient Medication Record) and it was written :" Warfarin 2.5mg, OM" (OM means on morning). OH MAN! I started to have cold sweats before I clarified with SN. It was prescribed on 2pm and the "OM" was a mistake by doctor! Well, this is one mistake made by doctor on my case.

After the first incident, I flipped through the rest of IMR. As I read through the second page, there was a short note which caught my attention. It was written" Dear doctor, Zocar (brand name)= Simvastatin (generic name), please cancel either your dose. From pharmacist"! Hahaha, I burst out with my laughters and wondering who was the culprit of the mistake. Well, even myself knew this 2 names are referring to the same drug! Doctor was overdosing patient!

So now do you understand why hospital needs nurses and pharmacists? They are to constantly remind doctors on the stupid mistakes and prevent suffering of patients.

Phew~ One stressful day in NUH had passed. Although it's stress enough that I hardly got 5 mins for my tea, I was satisfied.

Wei! Don't think I am mad ok... Because today I had got a very outstanding SN who is willing to share her knowledge and experience. Her capability and responsibility are a bonus to my impression on her. Furthermore, she is friendly towards students. If you accidentally mess things up, she will still teach you step by step with a gentle and soothing tones.

Teamed up with her, I was tasked with 2 cases. Disappointedly, I still need to brush up my managing skills.

*******************************
Sincerely thank you, SN Karen.

Types of Vicious Staff Nurses

Type 1
This is the commonest type among all. Staff nurses who belong to this category often unfriendly towards students. They will neither speak nor smile to students if they require no help. Occasionally, they will even find faults on students and make their life full of sorrows.

Type 2
"Student, help me to change bedsheet." "Student, off bed 30's plug." "Student, do dressing for bed 21." They always "student" here and there, make full use of students. Their ultimate aims are to make sure students flip no case notes and learn no advanced skills.

Type 3
They are evil. Similarly, they command and boss students around. Unfortunately, while students are busy with their intructions, they complain to Nurse Manager or lecturer about the laziness that students possess.

Clever NUH

Third day in Ward 43

I was a super woman when I was in ward 43. We, students were fully utilised by the ward, the staffs and even the juniors.

Suddenly I realized how come PRCP passing rate in NUH is 50%, just because they can get FREE LABORS for 12 more weeks from the failures! Although we have been bullied by the staffs, we still have to keep our mouths shut as they are the preceptors.

Uh huh, clever ho?

That's life of being a student nurse attached to NUH, ward 43.

Conclusion of today = chaotic + hectic + miserable + terrible

Stupid

Second day in Ward 43

Spent my second day in Ward 43. Terrible.

There was one sarcastic staff nurse (SN). She treated student nurses as if we're trouble makers. No doubts, some student nurses might be giving her troubles BUT not all!

A patient was complaining severe backache and after my pain assessment, he was having pain score of 8 out of 10. Then, I told the SN about the pain and the scoring of pain is 8. She said, annoyingly :" Everytimg student told me pain score is 10, but everytime I asked patient they always say is 2 only and also refused pain killer! Later I'll go ang check." Oh man, what a stupid attitude!

About 8pm, I was looking for the night staff and wanted to update her about some info. When I saw the same SN and asked who was the night stuff. She never took a look on me, mumbling with :"Jennifer." I didn't hear what she said because she behaved like talking to nobody! So I asked to repeat again. She then said:" I'm telling you she's Jennifer!"

What the fuck!

Is it so difficult for staff nurses to treat student nurses nicely? If they're not willing or buzy to teach us, can they just stop giving us that kind of bastard attitude? Don't treat us like we're making trouble! We're not paid for working with them! I can say if without student nurses around, they will be even buzier like hell!

Satisfaction? Unsatisfaction?

After browsing through Elric's entry (17 Nov at http://u-amphibian.blogspot.com) , I started to have my brain stormed.

Undeniably to certain extent, he is stating the truth of motivation towards achievement and goals. However, I still stand firm on my viewpoint.

Unsatisfaction in life will give rise to two completely different results. One is motivation, and greediness is the other.

One who is optimistic, will interpret unsatisfaction as a motivator.

For pessimism, unsatisfaction becomes the source of sorrow.

An example: A teenager wanted to buy the latest handphone but has got insufficient money. He then finds a part-time job to get extra income to fulfil his lust. Oppositely, he steals to grand his wish.

Elric had mentioned:" Who won't want to earn more and have a higher standard of living?" You see, if you compare yourself with a remarkable one, no doubt maybe this will trigger you to work harder. However if you don't, it won't hinder your life. It's just that you can't be richer and that's all.

Try to compare yourself with unfortunate one. They were handicapped or disabled by certain traumas, tragedies or diseases and that affected their daily living! Even though they might be rich BUT do they enjoy life? No.

Therefore, One must live satisfyingly and you will be blessed with happiness. This is what I mean.

(*No offence ho, Elric aka AhBeng. If any, I seek your forgiveness.*)

Be Satisfied

Recently, a lots of road traffic accidents (RTA) occurred. Do you agree?

I was posted to A&E Priority 1 area today and had witnessed emergency cases being sent in without any delay by the civil defence.

On 10am, 4 casualties being brought in urgently. 2 were sustained from severe head injury, another 2 were the pedestrians knocked down by vehicles.

Do you know how did the 2 head injury sufferers got hurt? Regrettably, they were hit by bricks! Bricks from level 3 fell on their heads in construction setting and caused them to have skull fractures.

How about the other pedestrians? They were both knocked down by motorcycles at two different spots.

Are you laughing at what they experienced? Well, you better don't do that. Because you will never know what will happen to you next. Who knows maybe the bed will collapse when you are in your dream and you thought you can sleep soundly and peacefully?

Sorry lar..I am not cursing you. Just hope that you can be easily satisfied.

Sometime people just take things for granted. One will never know how lucky and fortunate he/she is unless he/she undergoes certain disaster.

Being a student nurse, I got the opportunities to explore the "world". Everyday, all sorts of incidents happen, various of cases occur.

It is too much to be expressed through words.

Just hope that everyone is satisfied with who you are. There are people out there who are more unfortunate than you.

Phemonenon in sales line

Saturday, finally I got to meet up with Mr. D in best denki. After having a short conversation with him, he became more viscious than I imagined.

Apparently all human beings cannot survive without a mask. They need mask to keep them relieved and feel eased. As if their faces are so precious which cannot be shared with others.

Or perhaps they know their faces are so wicked which they have no guts to show everyone.

This is a normal phenomenon in salesline. You can never meet someone who is being his/her true self. Maybe you thought you had met one and you think he/she is trustworthy enough, but are you sure? You dare to guarantee that he/she is doing without a mask and true to you?

Ignorantly, I used to be true to everyone.

However, after joining sales for more than one and a half year, I began to lose confidence in people I met. All sorts of faked faces and masks around me, just to take advantages on me.

Gradually, I learnt self-protection.

By learning to protect myself, will I be one of them? Putting on a mask, and smile.

Was it the environment causing the impurities of human hearts?

Deep in my heart, I am terrified. Scared to be one of them.

Idiot Mr.D

Yesterday I received a super idiotic news!

Let's get started with a story.....

-On April'05, I was first introduced by a guy named Mr. D to work as a Sams*ng promoter for T company. He specially requested T company to permanently post me in the Best Denki because of my aggressiveness was rather impressive. He treated me very well, gave me morning call to wake me up, bought me food, offered me free meals, sent me home, called me very frequently and even helped me to move my stuff from JB to SG. Then one day, he told me he liked me. However, he was rejected because I had got no sparks on him so I still remained single. Along the way, he treated me as good. -

-Soon, I was attached with my bf but thing still went on peacefully. One day, Best Denki was having reshufflement of supervisors and my current supervisor got replaced by Mr. J, new supervisor. This incidence further complicated my story. He was quite a friendly person but too bad, he did parking sales very often, especially on me. Due to this reason, I had got a code which normally only full-timer could get. So, from that day onwards, I put my code no. on whatever stuff I sold (but I sometime did put other staff's code). About one and half year later (Sept '06) he got promoted to supervisor of my counter.-

-Ever since that day, he changed dramatically.-

Recently, he complained that I was not aggressive at all and even requested to change a new promoter! Even though he knew that I am the gf of T company manager, he still did that.

I managed to rule out reasons which contributed to his complaint:
1) By replacing me away, a new promoter will put Mr. D's code on the stuff he sold as demanded and thereafter he will get more income.
2) I have got a bf, he has no hope on me so no reason to keep me there.

Hey! What the f*ck! (*sorry, pardon me for this time please.*)

I still couldn't believe that he complained and requested to replace me. Human can really do anything, cause any harm to anyone just for the sake of money! No wonder until now, aged 30 years, he remains single....or should I say he remains unwanted? Oh man, it's unbelievable! He better go and die!

Future OT Nurse

Today we were being gathered to attend a talk held by the director of nursing educator(NE) in NUH. we were so happy as we were freed from work for that two hours and able to sit down comfortably in the lecture hall. Haha..

The NE discussed the future career pathway of a nurse in NUH to all the year 3 student nurses and ask us to fill in our desired first and second dicipline to work with. Without any hesitation, I filled in Operating Theatre as my first choice and Orthopaedics(Bone) the second.

I've decided to be an OT nurse. Even if my PRCP(Pre-Registration and Consolidation Placement) does not schedule me to go OT, I'll request to be transferred to OT after I have about 1 or 2 years of ward experience.

Actually, to be honest, I only have one choice, OT. Why did I choose Orthopaedics as the second choice? Because Whichever incidence related to bones, it involves surgery.

Doctors Priviges

Surprisingly I was able to be a scrub nurse(nurse who assists surgeon during operation, the one who maintains strict aseptic techniques to prevent any contamination) for today. Although it was just a minor surgery(Excision of the sixth finger), but patient was a 9-month-old baby! The little sixth finger was soooo tiny, just about a peanut size after excised and it looked cute!

Today was my 2nd day in the OT(Operating Theatre) and I realized there is a norm in the OT. Apparently the signboards which indicate "No handphone allowed in the OT" are just decorations on the walls. Not only the anaethestist which I mentioned in my last blog using hp, but also the rest of the doctors! Be observant, I only mention doctors but not nurses because I couldn't see any nurse using hp in the OT. For every ring, for sure it's from doctor's hp. So I think all the signboards on the walls should be changed into "No hp allowed in the OT , doctors exempted". Uh huh, this is doctors privilages.

Oh no, I forgot, signboards are for decorating purposes in our OT.

My First Posting In Operating Theatre

Wow! Today I was freakingly tired...hmmm..no no..not tired, i was exhausted. Just imagine I woke up at 0545 this morning, got out of home at 0615 and was in NUH at 0730 then started work at 0800. Can believe or not? Oh well, maybe that's still okay. When I reached there and after changing into OT(Operationg Theatre) attire, I was being orientated and assigned to the AU(Anaethetics Unit) as a assisting AU nurse.

Why? Excited when you heard the "AU Nurse"? Actually it's not a big deal. Difference is that for normal OT nurses, they have to assist surgeons during the surgeries. As for AU nurses, their responsibilities are to team up with anaethetists to put patients asleep, unconcious and monitor their conditions during surgeries, lastly wake patients up after everything is done. Prior to a surgery, AU nurse and anaethetist will induce patient to be unconcious. When patient has lost all his senses, the surgery will then be started. From this moments onwards, OT nurse takes the responsibility to assist the surgeon and AU nurse is just to monitor patient's condition. That's all. Simple.

Today my OT room was in a mess. Nurses rushing to get the intruments indicated, surgeons manipulating the instruments, and me running here and there to get what they requested at the same time help to monitor patient's conditions. We were suffered for 3 hours for that surgery. I can say it's chaotic.

The best part is: When everyone was busy with the surgery, the anaethetist was standing aside, sms-ing, accessing his gmail account without helping us! KAO~! Didn't he know that inside the OT, handphones are highly restricted? What are the signs hanging on the walls for? He knew it would cause reading inaccuracy of all machines and yet he still did that! Well, I think if the person who lying on the trolley were his close kins, he wouldn't do that. Now I tell you, if I know my patient is his close kins, I will activate my handphone and let him experience it!

This inconsiderate educated sarcastic fellow! High social prestige yet tramples lifes.

Delusion of Jealousy-Part II

For me, guys can be categorized into two types: One is those who suffered from delusion of jealousy, one is those who simply bochap.

We'll first discuss about the former one.

Those guys behave suspiciously. Although some of them might not be showing it but as time goes by and when something happens, you'll know. In another case, they might be claiming that he angry is because of incident A, but then deep inside his heart is angry over the incident B.
For example: You go clubbing with your girlfriends, and back home before 2am. He said he'll worry and ask you not to go clubbing next time because it's dangerouse to be in a club without a guy around. Let say you have promised him not to go clubbing anymore. So the next time you chill out late(not clubbing or pubbing) with your friends and get home before 2am. He angry again, saying that it's unsafe for a lady go out late because you'll never know what will happen. Who knows maybe your friend will do something harmful to you? Obviously, he doesn't want you to be out late because he is worrying that you might be dating someone else!

For the latter, I have not much thing to comment about. Basically they are just can't be bothered because they know even if they restrict your freedom, they can only bind you physically. If you were to abandon him and flee away, it's all predestined.

I prefer my bf has confidence on me and himself. He must understand that his gf will not do anything unfaithful to him if he stays loyal to her too. Too bad, he seems to be unaware of this.

Miss Anything

This is where I sleep (*Sorry, I know It's messy!*)

Woke up on this lovely morning (*everything is just so lovable after my exam!*), the first thought which flashed through my mind was :" Where to go later?".

The only new entertainment center is VivoCity. I was there yesterday and my two girlfriends was like a 'mountain tortise' keep on yelling and cheering. Oh man, I was like bringing two kids with me, but come to think of it, I behaved like them when I was first brought to VivoCity. So, don't blame the two ladies as we are the same! Haha.... Anyway, we had our enjoyable day last night.

Anywhere else? Don't think so.

I prefer to throw the question to the guys, let them kill their brain cells. That is why I always answer "Anything lor..." whenever they ask "Where to go?"

I think I can be addressed as "Miss Anything". Don't you think so, Guys..?

The Way I Study

When the clock stroke 12, we knew it has come to the end. Exam was over.

Confined myself for 7 days was a torture to me, because I needed to bury myself in the books and studied all the lectures notes which I've never taken a glance before! Oh man, I was like teaching myself all the topics......How did I manage to squeze all the notes into my pretty small brain? Hard to imagine....

Well...that's the way I study.

If I could obediently attend every lectures and tutorials punctually and regularly, I think the sun will rise from the West. For this semester of year 3, I skipped majority of the lectures, I missed most of the tutorials. Serious? Yes, serious. Tell you something ridiculous, from the beginning of this course, I've signed my own reminding letters for up to 5 times!

Haha....Sssshhh... Don't tell anyone please.
