My First Posting In Operating Theatre
Wow! Today I was freakingly tired...hmmm..no no..not tired, i was exhausted. Just imagine I woke up at 0545 this morning, got out of home at 0615 and was in NUH at 0730 then started work at 0800. Can believe or not? Oh well, maybe that's still okay. When I reached there and after changing into OT(Operationg Theatre) attire, I was being orientated and assigned to the AU(Anaethetics Unit) as a assisting AU nurse.
Why? Excited when you heard the "AU Nurse"? Actually it's not a big deal. Difference is that for normal OT nurses, they have to assist surgeons during the surgeries. As for AU nurses, their responsibilities are to team up with anaethetists to put patients asleep, unconcious and monitor their conditions during surgeries, lastly wake patients up after everything is done. Prior to a surgery, AU nurse and anaethetist will induce patient to be unconcious. When patient has lost all his senses, the surgery will then be started. From this moments onwards, OT nurse takes the responsibility to assist the surgeon and AU nurse is just to monitor patient's condition. That's all. Simple.
Today my OT room was in a mess. Nurses rushing to get the intruments indicated, surgeons manipulating the instruments, and me running here and there to get what they requested at the same time help to monitor patient's conditions. We were suffered for 3 hours for that surgery. I can say it's chaotic.
The best part is: When everyone was busy with the surgery, the anaethetist was standing aside, sms-ing, accessing his gmail account without helping us! KAO~! Didn't he know that inside the OT, handphones are highly restricted? What are the signs hanging on the walls for? He knew it would cause reading inaccuracy of all machines and yet he still did that! Well, I think if the person who lying on the trolley were his close kins, he wouldn't do that. Now I tell you, if I know my patient is his close kins, I will activate my handphone and let him experience it!
This inconsiderate educated sarcastic fellow! High social prestige yet tramples lifes.
Totally engrossed,
