Oh No~!
I didn't know that scrubbing can be very draining. It drains your every single brain cell, and it's killing.
Why do I have such comment while I'm so much in love with my job??
Back to two days ago which is on the 29/5, Ruby requested me to hold her liver bench work pager for two days. Without any hesitation, I helped her.
Even though knowing that I'm on standby, I travelled back to JB as loneliness is something I hate the most.
When the clock stroke 11pm, I lied myself on comfy bed and started to rest. Phone rang~!
It's from Ruby! Gosh, liver transplant team was activated then!
Quickly I called back to Sister Azizah. She informed me to standby any phone call later as she would ring me to confirm the timing again.
Sleep buds hit in, and I fell asleep no matter how worried I was.
2am in the morning, scary phone rang again. Sister wants me to reach NUH at 7am.
Oh well, I got to wake up at 4:45am, started my journey from JB custom at 5:15am and reached NUH at 6am!
8am would be the time for the patient to be on OT table. I circulated for Ledesa who was supposed to be the scrub nurse for recipient.
After which, I scrubbed in to prepare my bench work trolley.
Another sister stepped into our OR and things changed.
She instructed me to scrub for the recipient!!!!!!!
Oh my god~~~~~~~
I remember my brain gone blank and I turned speechless. The only thing I did was staring at sister. I guess my eye balls nearly popped out.
I then took over from Ledesa to continue my trolley set up even though I didn't have my mental prepared.
It's indescribable.
I have yet witnessed any complete liver transplant operation, without any transplant knowledge, have zero experience in liver donor, scrubbed for bench work once and only!
Well, I do feel glad that sister was willing to take the risk.
I mean for this kind of macro major operation, she's willing to train a novice in liver transplant for her first time. I'm less than a year old.
So, I scrubbed continuously for ten hours with merely 30mins toilet and lunch break.
Haha....at the end of the operation, I almost went coma.
We're so happy and blessed that the needle and swab counts are tally!!!!! I used up 121 sutures~
Needle lost is the least thing I want. I just want to have a correct sharps, sponges and instruments count. I'm willing to bear any reprimanding, any scolding or even yelling. I just wanted the count to be correct and nothing went wrong.
The mental stress of any discrepancy of counts is terrible. Furthermore, that was my first time handling such a tiny and massive usage of needles.
Haha...I'm so glad that I went through that peacefully. Although in between I got reprimanded by Prof for few times. Well...to me, that wasn't a big issue as I knew that, that was my first time. My virgin liver transplant recipient.
Totally engrossed,
